About The Mindful Midwife

Hi, I’m Faye, a mother of three and the midwife behind The Mindful Midwife!

I started my training as a midwife in 2006 and have worked across a wide range of maternity settings, developing my experience in both clinical practice and senior midwifery roles.

Having my own babies changed the way I viewed birth. My experiences weren't perfect, but they were positive because I felt safe, listened to and informed. I trusted the people caring for me and felt excited about giving birth! I wanted other women to feel that same confidence, whatever their birth plans looked like.

I set up The Mindful Midwife in 2019 to help expectant parents feel prepared, to understand their options and approach birth with confidence and excitement, without judgement.

Alongside birth preparation, I offer birth reflection appointments for women who want to talk through their experience, explore their feelings and make sense of what happened.

Mindfulness is something I practise in my own life. For me, it's not about sitting in silence desperately trying to block out the thoughts, it's about being present, staying grounded and feeling better able to navigate life's challenges, including the chaos of motherhood!

Why mindfulness?

Midwifery isn’t just my job, it’s a part of my identity, so when I’m not being a midwife, I’m reading about midwifery, attending courses, conferences, and engaging with other passionate midwives!

However, I do manage to find time to spend with my family, exploring new places and enjoying good food. I love tackling a DIY project and occasionally manage to squeeze in a Pilates class.
